From Ordinary to Extraordinary

This Thanksgiving week, be thankful for your unique future.  The leap, it turns out, is never cookie-cutter predictable.

It comes at different people from different directions. Sometimes the leap is idea driven—an overwhelming inspiration that arises out of the most mundane circumstances. Sometimes, it’s a radical shift in our own history. Personal tragedy kick-starts many toward their leap. Getting laid off got me off the dime.  And many practically had to be pushed uphill into what has become a life of extraordinary accomplishment.

Some of us rushed toward the precipice; some of us crept. Some of us proceeded logically, step by step; some relied more on intuition. Everyone has a different stomach for risk. No two people reason exactly alike. That’s one of the beauties of our humanness: our infinite variability.

Ultimately, we all remain in a quest to answer two simple questions that speak to our deepest longing for purpose as business people, homemakers, professionals, educators, and public servants: Why is it that some people can break free from their existing trajectories in life and accomplish unexpected and incredible things, while most don’t? And what can I do, right now, to start and nurture a leap of my own?

The future is ours to dream. It is ours to claim.  It is ours to live!

This is the year we give thanks for what we are.

Next year, we give thanks for what we have become…
